The short version: every calculator on this site runs entirely in your browser. The numbers you type in never get sent anywhere, saved anywhere, or seen by us. We do count page views with a cookieless analytics tool, but it never sees a single figure you enter.
The Ledger is a small collection of financial calculators — mortgage refinancing, auto loans, mortgage points, home affordability, extra mortgage payments, and HELOC/cash-out refinance comparisons. Each one takes the numbers you enter, runs the math in your browser using JavaScript, and shows you the result. No part of that calculation is sent to a server. There is no server involved in the calculation at all.
Directly, from the calculators themselves: nothing. We don't ask for your name, email, or any contact information to use any tool on this site. Loan balances, income figures, interest rates — none of it is transmitted, logged, or stored by us in any form.
Like virtually any website, the server that hosts these pages (and any content-delivery network in front of it) automatically logs basic technical information for every visit — your IP address, browser type, and the page requested — as a standard part of serving web pages. This is infrastructure-level logging, not something this site collects or uses for any purpose beyond keeping the site running.
Separately, this site does record anonymous, aggregate traffic statistics — which pages get visited and when a calculator is run. That is described in full under Analytics below. It contains no personal information and none of the numbers you type into a calculator.
This site does not set cookies. The analytics tool it uses is deliberately cookieless, and the calculators themselves don't use browser local storage or session storage. Nothing persists between visits — reload any calculator and it starts fresh, because there was never anything to remember. If advertising is added later, that will change, and this section will say so before it goes live.
Pages on this site load typefaces from Google Fonts. When your browser fetches those font files, it makes a direct request to Google's servers, which — like any web request — includes your IP address. We don't control this exchange or receive any data from it ourselves. Google's own privacy policy governs what happens on their end.
Every page also loads a small analytics script from Umami Cloud, which is covered in detail under Analytics. Those are the only two third-party services this site loads.
As of the date above, this site displays no advertisements and contains no affiliate links. No ad network code runs on any page.
We are, however, working toward displaying ads — the Terms of Service permit it, and third-party advertising is the intended way to keep these tools free. If and when an ad network such as Google AdSense is enabled here, it will very likely set cookies or use similar device identifiers to serve and measure ads, including personalized ads based on your prior browsing. That is a real change from how the site behaves today, so this section and the cookie section above will be rewritten with the specifics — which network, what it collects, and how to opt out — before any ad code goes live, not after.
Any outbound link to a lender, product, or service takes you to a site outside our control, governed by that site's own privacy policy, not this one.
This site uses Umami Cloud to count traffic. It is a privacy-focused, cookieless analytics tool: it sets no cookies, writes nothing to your browser's storage, assigns you no persistent identifier, and does not follow you to other websites.
What it records is a page view — which page was loaded, the referring site, and coarse details derived from your request such as browser, operating system, device type, and country. It also records a named event when you press a Calculate button, so we can see which tools actually get used. That event carries the name of the calculator and nothing else.
To be explicit about the part that matters: the analytics never receive the values you type in. Loan balances, incomes, rates, home values, and every result computed from them stay in your browser and are not part of any event we send.
Umami does not collect personal information and the statistics we see are aggregate — visitor counts and page totals, not individuals. If you would rather not be counted at all, any content blocker or browser privacy mode that blocks analytics scripts will stop it, and the calculators keep working normally with the script blocked.
This site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone in that age group — which is straightforward here, since we don't collect personal information from any visitor, of any age.
If what this site collects or how it's hosted changes, this page will be updated and the date at the top will change. Significant changes — like adding analytics, ads, or any form that asks for personal information — will be reflected here before they go live, not after.
